As an avid reader and a teacher librarian, I’ll gravitate to books anytime any place. When I am an Oakhurst, I bring my friends to shop at Branches. It has books for everyone and it also has great and unique gifts that are fun to give and receive. Check this place out if you are in the mood to shop. It’s located in the Von’s shopping center next to a great frozen yogurt place. That’ll be another blog.
I loved the Smokey Bear Run/walk. It was well organized and of course Smokey the Bear was there too! My friend, Chris and I did the walk. It was a great day to be out in the woods at Bass Lake and with so many delightful people. My favorite Race Host Ken was there. He is amazing! I hope I’ll see you there next year!
It was casual dining by the shore at the Marina Grill outdoors gourmet waterfront restaurant. It was a breezy cool day sitting and enjoying friends and good burgers under the shade of grass umbrellas. A great beachy vibe right at the dock. Live music while we enjoyed our lunch. There is even a place to play Corn Hole. We had a great server, Noah who confirmed that the frisbees that served as our plates were ours to keep. We even got free Koozies for our drinks. It was my first time there and I know I will be back!
This morning I took these pictures on my cell phone. I started my walk from my Bass Lake home with quail on my mind. There was a flock of quail that reminded me of where I grew up. We had lots of wild quail living in my neighborhood. As I made my way to a favorite spot by the lake and trees, I had a feeling I should have my camera out. Just a few seconds later, a giant bald eagle flew over my head and perched on the top of tree behind me. The sound of it’s powerful wings as it flew over me was majestic.
The eagle had a friend, for right away another one showed up. Camera ready, and these two photos were the best of the bunch. Wild eagles are so beautiful to watch in flight. As one called out to the other, it was chilling.
Moments like these at Bass Lake are gifts to be enjoyed. Find your Bliss at Bass Lake!
I was driving up to Bass Lake and saw homes with signs of gratitude for the hard work of the men and women who are doing all they can to end the forest fires. Yosemite really was hit hard this year.
This Sunday morning, I had the pleasure of breathing in clean air and I wanted to say to all who are fighting the fires, “Thank you.” I can only imagine all the challenges these brave crew must face to do a very dangerous job. Thank you, thank you.
A lovely Sunday morning walk around the lake was a treat to see berries ripening on the vine. Any time in Bass Lake is a good time in Bass Lake. Not only are the berries a treat but getting away from the city to recharge in nature is a treat for the spirit. I am grateful to be able to enjoy my time up here. I can renew my energies and enjoy a beautiful walk.
I’m also starting to train for the Smokey The Bear Race Walk. More on that, I’ll keep you posted. Meanwhile remember you can find Bliss at Bass Lake!
When you go to Bass Lake, I recommend visiting the Pines Village. There is a great shop called Good Ol Daze owned by Chuck & Sharyn Nugent. If you enjoy coffee, ice cream and shopping then you will enjoy this place.
Yesterday, Lesalee was on the front counter. What I love about the place is that I can shop before I even walk in to the store. I am always finding great gifts for friends and .. even myself!
I love foxes so when they had a very tempting table with various fox items I took a picture to remind me to come back and shop. I also enjoy jewelry and the whole front part of the store is dedicated to all sorts of styles. There are clothes and collectibles, puzzles and plenty of lovely items to enjoy.
When you walk in, this fellow is here to greet you. The first time I saw him, I thought he was real. He’s a great photo op. Add Good Ol Daze to your places to visit at Bass Lake.
My friend Elise and I went to brunch at Casa Velasco today. If you love Mexican food, then this is the place to go when you are up at Bass Lake, California. We had the breakfast burritos. They were wonderful with fresh chips and salsa. Since I’ve discovered Casa Velasco, I bring my friends there to enjoy casual dining. What I love about the place is that if feels like family. Go where the locals go and you will get a sense of community when you enjoy lunch or dinner. Tell them, Ramona sent you!
Today, I talked with Yolanda, the co-oowner of Casa Velasco. I had asked her about the painting hanging by the register.
A local artist Joan Constable painted the picture of Yolanda and Efran. There’s Yolanda posing with the painting. Turns out Joan has quite a few of her pieces hanging at Casa Velasco’s. Ask Yolanda which paintings are Joan’s. She’s got some great stories on the different styles of Joan.
When you are up at Bass Lake, stop by and enjoy a meal, it’s a great place to eat out. Lots of good energy and great service. Today our server was Kelly. Enjoy and stay tuned to further updates at life at Bass Lake.
When things get a bit crazy at work, I just think about driving up to Bass Lake to stay at my own personal retreat. I love my home away from home because it is surrounded by trees, I have a creek in the back yard and the sounds of nature calling out. I love to go an just unplug. You can see me kayaking with friends or even solo early in the morning before the lake gets active with families enjoying an abundance of water and shore activities.
I can sit outside and meditate, read and unwind before I unravel from the challenges of work. I love my job and the people who I get to work with but I love escaping to nature and unplugging from technology. I love that I can share my home with others. It’s part of the reason I bought this place. My friends have named it Bass Lake Bliss and they are so right.
As a high school teacher librarian, I read a lot of young adult books. As well as some regular adult books. I’ll let you in on a secret, I listen to a lot of audio books too. To help me keep track of what I read, and be able to recommend books, or warn people from books and most importantly, help me shop for books, I keep a blog. I hope you find it helpful. Maybe there’s a book you are looking to read up at the lake. Enjoy.
I named it The Young Adult Reading Machine. Here is the website http://mscheeklibrarypage.blogspot.com
